Do Your Research!
Did you know your dog looks like a fox?
We get stopped all the time with our dogs and many people are curious about them.
I can't tell you how many times I have heard your dog looks like a fox!
With people considering adding a Shiba to their lives, I always say the same thing. Do your research. Shibas are a creature unto their own and although we think everyone should have a Shiba to enrich their lives, they are NOT for everyone.
My very first question to you will always be have you had a Shiba before, or at least some experience with one. We will not send one of our pups home to anyone who is not prepared for one. So please do your research! If you are used to Labradors or Retrievers, the Shiba would not make a good fit!
Some of their differences are that although these dogs are not hypoallergenic, they do not require regular bathing, in fact, unless they roll in something stinky (which will inevitably happen), they should not be bathed at all. If you do have to bathe your baby, please use nothing stronger than Dawn dish soap, and be prepared for your neighbors to think you are killing your Sheeb! They can be quite the drama queens when it comes to water! Another difference is if you are looking for a pet you can just open the door and let run, not a good fit. Even with a fenced in yard, the Shiba will find a way out, even if he/she has to scale the fence. Not to say a Shiba cannot be trained to be off leash, but you have to prepared for when they take off on you should the wind go flying by!
